DRIVERS in Huddersfield have been told: Keep your hands off your horns.

Council officers getting ready for National Noise Action Week want to cut the number of complaints about car horns.

They want drivers to respect people's right to silence.

And they have urged them to do their bit in Noise Action Week, by using horns in emergencies only.

Kirklees Environmental Services staff are asking motorists, including taxi drivers, not to use their horns unnecessarily, especially between 9pm and 8am.

They recommend that, when taxi drivers arrive at their pick-up point, they telephone their customer (on a mobile phone if they are not being picked up from home). If this is not possible, they should visit the premises to announce their arrival.

A council spokesman said: "All motorists are asked to remember that one person's tune is another's torture, especially late at night."
