A NEW date has been set for a Huddersfield businessman to try to break the world blindfold land speed record.

Curtis Paxman, 29, director of Fenay Bridge brewing supplies firm Brewfitt wants to smash the record at Elvington Airfield in York.

The bid - destined to raise thousands of pounds for charity - had to be postponed last September.

There were worries over safety cover for the record bid involving Mr Paxman and other drivers.

A weekend of testing takes place on April 29 and 30 before the land speed record attempt on May 21 and 22.

Mr Paxman said: "It was disappointing but the safety crew are vital and we all want to have the right people and equipment in place."

The record is held by Mike Newman from Cheshire, who achieved an average speed of 144.7mph in a Jaguar.

Mr Paxman will make his attempt in a Formula 1 Tyrrell racing car.

The machine is capable of speeds of more than 200mph.

He is a keen motorsports enthusiast and hopes to raise a minimum of £3,700 for the British Blind Sport Charity through the challenge.
