A man has been convicted after trying to steal hair growth products.

Sean Mcinerney, 36, was caught outside Huddersfield Boots on August 18 with £259 worth of the goods in a bag.

Drug addict Mcinerney, of Lockbridge Way in Milnsbridge, also appeared before Kirklees Magistrates Court to face a charge of stealing razors worth £72 from Wilkinsons with another man the day before.

According to Alex Bosnan, prosecuting, Wilkinson security guards discovered Mcinerney’s first offence the day after it happened.

“On CCTV two males were seen entering and placing the razors into a bag,” he said.

“Mcinerney later handed the razor blades to an accomplice who sold them on.

“After his second offence, police were called to outside Boots. They ran a drugs test on him and he tested positive for cocaine.

“He has already undergone various rehabilitation orders and suspended sentences for other offences but they have become increasingly unsuccessful.”

Jonathan Slawinski, mitigating, said sending Mcinerney to prison for the offences would not solve his problems.

“He has been suffering from drug problems since he was 22,” he said. “He’s on a merry-go-round in and out of prison and steals to feed his drug addiction.

“He suffers from drug induced psychosis.

“I believe the medication he is on is at too low a dose because he is still using on top.

“But since being released from prison in July and has managed to maintain contact with Lifeline.

Paulette Huntington, lead magistrate, sentenced Mcinerney to a six month drug rehabilitation requirement and a six month community order.

“We are giving you the benefit of the doubt, but the most likely outcome if you break these orders is that you will go to prison,” she said.
