DRUG-TAKERS and fly-tippers are blighting a popular Huddersfield walking route.

The path at Willow Lane in Fartown is strewn with used needles, condoms, beer cans and dog dirt.

Fly-tippers have also dumped tyres, computers, chairs and tables on the route which goes under the busy Bradford Road.

Linda Storey, who lives on nearby Eleanor Street, goes walking along the path twice a week.

The 59-year-old is fed up with the state of the route.

“The rubbish is absolutely horrendous,” she said.

Mrs Storey described some of the rubbish she has seen on the route.

“It’s always been the kind of place where you find bottles and cans,” she said.

“But now there’s dog muck, used needles and condoms as well.”

Mrs Storey added that fly-tippers use the site – even though it is close to Kirklees Council’s waste disposal centre on Flint Street.

She said: “It’s so annoying because the tip is only half a mile down the road. There is no need for this.”

Mrs Storey said the problem gets worse when the council misses a bin collection.

She said: “I saw six black bin bags of rubbish which had just been chucked over a gateway.

“It’s frustrating when the bin men don’t come but you should just take it to the tip.”

Mrs Storey praised litter-pickers for doing their best to keep the route clear of rubbish.

She said: “There are volunteers who clear up the rubbish but as soon as they clear it up, more appears”.
