POLICE arrested several people during a two-day anti-crime campaign in Honley and New Mill – and found a cannabis factory.

People were detained for offences including burglary, criminal damage, assaults and non-payment of fines during the blitz which finished yesterday.

The cannabis factory was found at a house on New Mill Road in Brockholes by The Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team. Inquiries are ongoing.

Several potentially dangerous vehicles were banned from the road until they were repaired. Some were found to be running illegally on red diesel.

A stolen car was stopped and a man arrested.

Several vehicles were clamped by the DVLA because their excise licences had expired.

Kirklees Council departments were involved cleaning graffiti and getting rid of dumped rubbish along with giving out advice.

Insp Mark Trueman from the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The operation has once again shown that working with our partners we can reduce crime and the fear of crime within an area.’’

Those taking part were officers from the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team, police crime reduction officers, Kirklees Council, Kirklees Community Safety, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency – which checks for faulty vehicles on the road – Hackney Licensing, Environmental Rangers, Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and West Yorkshire Trading Standards.
