DRUMMERS are celebrating after being given a £5,000 grant.
Beaumont Park-based Soundjata Promotions is a group of African drummers and dancers who take part in community events.
Members say the Arts Council grant will help them prepare for the forthcoming Huddersfield Carnival.
Organisers now hope to get more people involved in the colourful music and dance.
Shelagh Nying said: “We are a community youth group who give people the chance to take part in African drumming and dance.
“We are holding regular sessions leading up to Huddersfield Carnival so people can learn more and get involved.
“We’d love it if more people could come along.
“We are going into schools and encouraging young people particularly to get involved in the carnival.
“It is such a great occasion. We will have colourful costumes and will be taking part in the parade.”
The Arts Council also donated £1,845 to Marsden-based Pyro Pixies.
The circus group will use the money to learn new skills and get involved with other circus artists.
