A WOMAN was slammed as disgraceful by a judge for hurling drunken, racist abuse at a 16-year-old youth.

Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court was told yesterday that Julie Reilly, 35, of Royds Close, New Mill, told the teenager to “**** off back to South Africa”.

District Judge Jonathan Bennett told the mother-of-two: “This was a disgraceful piece of conduct.”

Reilly pleaded guilty to the charge of racially aggravated conduct.

She was fined £160.

The court heard that on September 10 Reilly – who was drunk – approached the victim as he was looking after younger children at his home.

She shouted at the teenager because he had told her daughter to be quiet and hurled the racist comment at him.

Reilly was still yelling at him in front of the children when police arrested her.

Reilly accepted being abusive towards the teenager.

Her lawyer, Mark Brookes, said Reilly regretted her actions.

He said: “She bitterly regrets her language; she can’t remember saying that, but she didn’t deny it.

“This has caused her great distress; she’s on income support and she has two children.”

Judge Bennett told Reilly: “You behaved in a disgraceful way in front of a lot of children.

“It was completely unacceptable, as was making references to the person going back to their country.”

Judge Bennett said he gave credit to Reilly for admitting her guilt, as not many people admit racial abuse.

But he told her to deal with any issues she had with people through the appropriate channels in the future, instead of taking matters into her own hands.

Judge Bennett also gave Reilly a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £100 compensation to the victim for distress and £60 court costs.
