A duck that got stuck down an overflow pipe in Inglewood Avenue, Huddersfield, had a lucky escape today.

Firefighters managed to rescue the stranded bird.

The drama started at lunchtime today when a Huddersfield fire crew was asked to help.

A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said: “We got the call at 1pm.

“A lot of the houses in that area have ornamental ponds and are linked up.

“This duck had got into the overflow pipe but we managed to rescue it by using the RSPCA’s net and got it out of the storm drain.

“It took us about 15 minutes and we released it back into the pond with its family.”
