THE Duke of York will join soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment as they celebrate their formation with a service and parade on Saturday at York Minster.

The Duke, who is Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, will join more than 1,000 officers, soldiers and guests from the Yorkshire Regiment at the service.

He will give a reading and will be invited to sign the visitors’ book.

Afterwards the Regiment will exercise its Freedom by parading through the streets of York.

The 500-strong parade will feature the regular and Territorial battalions marching with their colours flying, the Army Cadet Force and the Associations with their standards.

It will be commanded by Lt Col Andrew Jackson, Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, who has just returned with his men from a tour of Iraq.

The Duke of York will watch a short display by the Corps of Drums before the soldiers and veterans march past him on the south steps of the Minster.

The Yorkshire Regiment comprises the 1st Battalion (Prince of Wales’s Own) based in Catterick, 2nd Battalion (Green Howards) based near Preston but currently deployed in Afghanistan, 3rd Battalion (Duke of Wellington’s Regiment) based in Warminster and 4th Battalion (Territorial Army) based throughout Yorkshire and Cleveland.
