The Duke of York celebrated young achievers in the world of business on a visit to the University of Huddersfield.

Prince Andrew presented the Young Entrepreneur Awards for 2014 at the university’s 3M Buckley Innovation Centre.

The 10 businesses, created and pioneered by the young entrepreneurs, were chosen to represent each of the 10 universities in Yorkshire. Each business received The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Award.

The Duke is patron of the centre in Firth Street, Huddersfield.

Huddersfield University held the title of the Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2013 and is currently the University of the Year.

Following the presentation of the awards, His Royal Highness spent time chatting to the young entrepreneurs before congratulating them and encouraging them to develop their ideas further.

He told the student entrepreneurs: “It is important that we recognise the value and the work that you are putting in at this stage of your development.”

The Duke also stressed the importance of universities creating the right conditions for their students to be successful as entrepreneurs.

The university’s vice-chancellor Prof Bob Cryan, who officially welcomed the Duke, said: “The University of Huddersfield places entrepreneurship, innovation and business engagement at the heart of its mission and this enthusiasm is echoed by His Royal Highness.

“This was a special day.”
