A HUDDERSFIELD music duo are asking local people to help them secure a spot in a national talent contest run by BBC Radio 1.

The Moot, consisting of drummer Eryl Whiteley and guitarist Clare Dowling, are taking part in BBC Upstaged.

They formed in 2004 and play reggae, funk and pop. They are one of many acts profiled on the BBC Upstaged website.

Viewers of the site vote for the acts they want to see perform in a glass box in Bristol city centre. Once voted into the box, acts continue performing until someone else beats their numbers of votes.

The performances can be viewed on a live stream on the website.

The Moot were selected by Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills as a ‘wild card’ act to be in the running for a place in the box.

They lost out on that chance, but secured enough votes to keep them in the top five contenders.

If they get enough votes by noon on Monday, they could be performing in the box on Tuesday.

Eryl said: “We hope Huddersfield people will get behind us and vote!”

The last three acts to appear in the box when the contest ends on March 30 will have their performances shown on TV channel BBC 3.
