A DIEHARD Town fan from Holland is getting on his bike again for the club’s latest pedal-powered fundraiser.

Dutchman Ludo Scheibe, 34, is taking part in the 260-mile Pedal For Pounds 3 (P4P) ride from Yeovil to Huddersfield next week.

The dedicated fan (on the right in the picture), who has been to more than 150 Town matches, also took part in the P4P ride to Brighton last year, but now has a problem.

Friends in his homeland can’t understand his obsession with Town and he is struggling with sponsorship.

Ludo, who lives in Alkmaar in Northern Holland, now hopes locally-based fans will help boost his total.

Ludo, though, isn’t happy with just joining the 300 others on the Yeovil ride.

He is already in Yorkshire and plans to cycle south taking in tomorrow’s game at Walsall on the way, along with stepdad Steve Dove and friend Mark Ronan.

Ludo told of his pride in Town and the fundraising initiatives promoted by chairman Dean Hoyle.

Ludo said: “I’ve never been prouder being a Town fan since Dean Hoyle’s takeover.

“Pedal For Pounds, Help for Heroes, Bailey Coppack and the like has made Huddersfield Town about more than just 11 players in blue and white stripes.

“If a person like him sends out a rallying call like P4P, you answer it.”

Ludo is Dutch but his mum married former Lepton man Steve, a lifelong Town fan.

Steve’s grandad George Holroyd, from Dalton, was also a Terrier through and through and told tales of the club’s historic hattrick of Championships in the 1920s.

George sold his bike in 1919 and bought three £1 shares to help the club to survive.

The shares and the receipt are still within the family.

George only missed four home matches between 1921 and 1981 and his passion for Town spread through the family with Ludo the latest to catch the bug.

Ludo has been a fan since his first away match at Northampton in 1989, which Town won 3-1.

Ludo said: “As my family lived in Northampton at the time we couldn’t get tickets for the away end so we watched it with the home supporters.

“I have been a massive fan ever since. I get laughed at in Holland for not supporting my local team, AZ Alkmaar or at least a club like Manchester United, Arsenal or Liverpool but I wouldn't have it any other way.”

Ludo, who usually flies into Leeds-Bradford Airport on his footballing trips, completed the Brighton ride last year with stepdad Steve, raising £400.

But this time fundraising has been tougher.

“It was a no-brainer to do the ride again this year but the hardest part for me is sponsorship,” said Ludo.

“Friends in Holland get hassled into sponsoring me but it is rather remote for them so I need some help.”

Ludo has so far raised £200 for the cause which splits money between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the club’s Academy.

It is hoped this year’s ride will raise £250,000 in total.
