Bogus Kirklees Council workers have conned their way in to a house in Rawthorpe.

And police investigating the distraction burglary at a house in Rawthorpe Lane area have now released an E-fit of one of the suspects.

The incident happened last Wednesday morning (January 25) when two men knocked on the door and told the occupant that they had been sent by the council to conduct a boiler check.

Both were wearing high vis jackets and carrying tool bags. One of them also had a badge which had ‘Kirklees’ printed on it but with no name or picture.

Once inside the men were able to go upstairs and steal a Louis Vuitton bag, shoes and purse as well as cash. They then fled.

Det Con Kris Roberts from Huddersfield CID, said: “We are investigating this incident and would like to speak to anyone who recognises the man pictured in this efit or who may have been contacted by these men recently.

“We would ask residents to be vigilant, particularly when dealing with tradesmen or callers who arrive at your home without an appointment.”

One of the men was described as white, in his 30s. 5ft 9ins-5ft 11ins tall and slim.

He had a clean shaven thin face and wore a dark grey woollen hat with the rim turned up, grey trousers and a grey jacket with straight cut sleeves.

The man also had a Yorkshire accent and was holding a square, dirty cloth bag.

The other man is white, pale, 20-35-years-old, 5ft 7ins tall with a small build. He wore a grey jacket with the hood up.

A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said: “Anyone with concerns about callers should ask for the ID badge that all legitimate council staff wear and ring the contact details supplied for Kirklees Council to check on their identity before allowing them into their home.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the efit or has information about this offence should contact Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
