CHILDREN as young as three took part in the RSPCA horse show in Greenhead Park.

Joshua Walker, three, of Lascelles Hall, was one of the youngest contestants in the event, which has been staged annually in Huddersfield since the 1920s.

Dressage, mountain and moorland and working horse and pony, were among the many classes held.

Show secretary Sue Bray said she was pleased with the turn-out.

She said: "The weather has been very kind considering the conditions we had in August.

"And the turn-out has been very good."

New working hunter jumps were bought especially for the show and Mrs Bray paid tribute to the sponsors, who enabled the show to go ahead.

The event is organised by the Huddersfield and District branch of the RSPCA in conjunction with Kirklees Council.

Proceeds go to the RSPCA.
