HUDDERSFIELD is proving a hit for a fast-growing home interiors retailer.

Blackburn-based Morada Interiors has reported strong sales at their Kingsgate store which opened less than two weeks ago.

The 1,500 sq ft store is only the second to be opened by the company.

Morada opened its first store at Altrincham, Cheshire, in 2002 following three years of trials and planning.

After Huddersfield, it plans to open six more outlets during 2003 - starting with Shrewsbury, Epsom, Windsor and Carlisle.

The Kingsgate store, employing six staff, offers a range of colour-themed homeware - including curtains and soft furnishings, furniture, lighting, glassware, ceramics, mirrors and original art.

It also provides a free soft furnishing consultancy service in the customer's home, including advice on design as well as a full measure, manufacture and fit service.

Stuart Taylor, group chief executive, said the Huddersfield store had performed above expectations in the first few days.

"The response from the shopping public has been fantastic," he said.

Kingsgate centre manager Jonathan Hardy said the arrival of Morada meant Huddersfield could now offer a good choice of high quality furnishing stores.

"The initial response to Morada has been very positive," said Mr Hardy.

"It is proving a valued addition to the Kingsgate scheme."
