THE snow caused massive problems for some – but loads of fun for others.

Youngsters had a great time sledging and Huddersfield people got creative with the snow and ice.

In fact, snowmen are out this year – and more unusual sculptures are in – never more so than this magnificent example of Wallace from the ever-popular Wallace And Gromit.

It took 52-year-old Trevor Dixon more than two hours to create in the garden of his home on Osprey Drive in Meltham.

“When we had the last big snowfall my son, Tristan, was just two and I created a Postman Pat, he said.

“That was 18 years ago and Tristan is now 20 and studying a fine art degree.”

He did Wallace for his 12-year-old daughter, Carys, who is a pupil at Honley High School.

But if you’ve only built a snowman don’t feel too ashamed by Trevor’s magnificent efforts.

He’s a model-maker by trade.

A group of friends built an igloo in their back garden.

The eight-strong group of friends from Sunny Heys in Meltham were stuck at home on Monday after eight inches of snow meant they could not get to work or college.

They decided to make the most of the snowfall and set to work building an Eskimo style igloo – complete with entry tunnel.

It took from 9am to 5pm for them to finish the creation, which is big enough for four people to fit inside.

It was made in the garden of Jeanette Collins, 42. She was helped by her children Matthew, 11 and nine-year-old Keeley, as well as friends Lee Ford, 24, Daniel Stead, 18, James Sykes, 22, Oliver Crow, 17 and 11-year-old Luke Harker-Milnes.

Jeanette said: “We had all ages involved. We couldn’t go anywhere and the kids couldn’t get to school, but we had a productive day. We decided to make the most of it.

“I’ve built four of these igloos in the past 14 years, but this is by far the best. We were even debating putting a To Let sign on it!”
