YOUNGER children learn better at home, says Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman.

The Labour man said: "I think children should start school at seven, like they do in Denmark, with a lot more creative play.

"They could still learn to read and write at home, but they would be more stimulated, rather than putting them in a classroom and labelling some of them as failures from a young age."

Mr Sheerman also welcomed the first national review of primary schools for 40 years.

The Esme Fairbairn Trust is paying for the two-year Cambridge University study.

Mr Sheerman said: "I think it's a good idea.

"There have been vast improvements, but we need to see what can be done differently."
