CARNIVAL Queen Emily Roberts isn’t just the pretty face of the upcoming Cumberworth Carnival.
The eight-year-old Cumberworth First School pupil is the brains behind a plan to revamp the village festival, with a High School Musical theme.
The year three pupil has even applied for a grant from Kirklees Council.
And she, and the Carnival officials, were delighted when Emily was awarded £1,000 to help fund some of the entertainment on offer on the day.
The grant will help pay for appearances by guest cheerleaders from Huddersfield Giants, basketball players and a samba band.
Mum Nicola, said: “She loves it, she can’t wait, she’s very excited.
“She filled in the form herself to prove it was her idea.
“In years gone by it’s just been a parade of floats and she wanted to give it a boost and bring it up to date with a more current theme.
“She’s got her friends and the school right behind her.”
The July 3 carnival will feature a parade of the King and Queen and their eight attendants from Lower Cumberworth to the first school at Upper Cumberworth, setting off at 1.15pm.
At the school there will be a festival of High School Musical-themed entertainment and basketball workshops.
Emily will share pride of place at the head of the Carnival procession from Lower Cumberworth to the school with the King, Ben Minogue.
