AN elderly woman had to be freed from a car after it collided with a barrier on the M62 on Sunday evening.

Fire crews from Elland and Huddersfield were called to the scene on the westbound carriageway of the M62 between Junction 22 Rishworth and 23 Huddersfield at 8.30pm.

The woman, from Oldham, was travelling as a passenger in the Peugeot 308 driven by her husband when the car collided with the metal barrier. No other vehicles were involved.

Ambulance services and paramedics were also called to the scene and one lane of the motorway was closed to traffic.

The passenger door was jammed against the barrier and fire officers had to recline her seat to remove the woman via the rear door of the car.

She was taken by ambulance to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries to her left side.
