A FORMER councillor who was set to fight for the Calder Valley seat at the forthcoming election has stood down.
Chris O’Connor, the former Hipperholme and Lightcliffe councillor, has cited family commitments as the reason for his decision.
He was due to fight the seat at the next General Election – expected to be in May– as an Independent candidate.
He represented Hipperholme and Lightcliffe ward as a Conservative from 1988 to 1995 when he lost to Labour’s Keith Butterick.
In 1999 he was re-elected as a ward councillor.
Since then he has made two other attempts to gain a seat on Calderdale Council and says he will continue to do so at the next election.
