A CLINIC is to close leaving patients uncertain about where to access its services.

The Ellen Royd Clinic in Elland will shut later this year after terminating its lease with Calderdale Council, which owns the Westgate building.

District nursing, chiropody and audiology are listed as being available at the clinic.

It’s believed the services will be transferred elsewhere in Elland, but it’s not known where at this stage.

Clr John Ford told residents the news at the Elland Ward Forum.

Clr Ford said: “The clinic was based in a council owned building and I have received notification that the NHS will terminate the lease for the building with Calderdale.

“People may be concerned about the services that were provided there and what’s going to happen in the future.

“I am aware that a lot of pensioners use these facilities and as I understand it the nearest clinics are at Halifax and Brighouse, which people may struggle to get to, which in my view is unacceptable.

“It’s the elderly who use these services most.”

The councillor told residents that he believed the lease would end in December, although no date has been given.

The clinic is run by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust which will make the decision on where to relocate services to.

They did not response to requests from the Examiner to provide further information.

Figures on the hospital’s own website shows that rent of £2,975 per month was being paid for the Westgate building.

Further costs of gas, at £655.40 and £2,826.17 to a facilities management company were also incurred.
