GAS supply is set to improve in Elland thanks to a £164,000 upgrade.
Work is already underway to install new gas pipes in the Waverley Road area.
The project – which is mainly residential – will see a total of 1.2km of old metal pipes being replaced with plastic versions.
The move will ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in the area for decades to come.
Huddersfield Road, Waverley Road, Rosemount Avenue, Thomas Street, and Dewsbury Road are among the areas being affected.
The work is being carried out by United Utilities and Enterprise on behalf of Northern Gas Networks.
The upgrade is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
Northern Gas Networks and United Utilities have apologised to residents.
Northern Gas Networks director Chris Gorman said: “We will do everything we can to minimise any disruption.
“This year, will invest £82m renewing gas mains to ensure that our system remains one of the safest in the world.
“The good news is that we will be using modern technology to reduce the number of excavations we need to complete the work and our new plastic pipes are more durable and flexible and have a lifespan of at least 80 years.”
