TWO giant commemorative stones were lifted into place in Elland at the weekend.
They’ve been put in a prominent position at the town’s figure of eight roundabout near to Lowfields Business Park and are inscribed with ‘Welcome to Elland Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 1952-2012’.
They were the idea of the Elland and District Partnership and its chairman Joe Braithwaite said: “We’ve finally got them in place as it’s a great thing for Elland.”
They were done in partnership with Marshalls of Southowram and Marshalls of Elland.
The partnership will be officially unveiling them later this year and is to have the roundabouts re-named the Jubilee Islands.
The EDP has also funded two benches to mark the jubilee and they are now in place at Hullen Edge Park in Elland and Hoyle Park in West Vale.
