MEMBERS of a winning band celebrated their success with two concerts.

The Elland Silver Youth Band led by Samantha Harrison celebrated their achievements in two Christmas Eve concerts at Halifax Minster.

It was the culmination of a historical year after they scooped two national titles and 16 trophies and individual soloist awards.

It means 2010 will go down in the history book as Elland Silver Band’s most successful year.

During the year the youth band has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in England including the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and the Sage Centre at Gateshead.

They have also performed alongside many of world class bands including their neighbours Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

The year was also extra special as the band was awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service The MBE for Voluntary Groups.

Band members James Shepherd, Samantha Harrison, secretary Kathleen Harrison and treasurer Kenneth Billington travelled to London in July to the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. And they’ve helped raise thousands for charities including Help For Heroes and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
