A woman who kicked a hole in the wall of a hospital waiting room was upset after being taken there when she drunkenly fell into a fireplace.

Emma Bennett admitted causing criminal damage at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

The incident happened on January 9 after police and paramedics were called to the 32-year-old’s home in New Road.

Vanessa Jones, prosecuting, told Kirklees Magistrates’ Court: “There was a report that she had fallen into a fireplace they attended at the address.

“She was abusive towards the paramedics and refused treatment.

“Police arrested her to prevent a breach of the peace and she was taken to hospital where she became belligerent.

“Because of the way she was acting she was taken away from the other patients into a relatives room.

“She kicked the wall and continued until there was a hole in the wall.”

Magistrates heard that Bennett caused £100 of damage to the wall.

Paul Blanchard, mitigating, described his client’s case as unusual.

On the day of the incident she was celebrating her birthday had been having a party with friends.

Mr Blanchard said: “Miss Bennett became intoxicated, fell into the fireplace and suffered a minor injury.

“She was saying she did not want help and became frustrated.

“It was clear that she didn’t want to be at the hospital and took that frustration out on the wall. In sobriety she apologises to the court.

“Staff didn’t need to put up with what was going on.”

Magistrates gave Bennett a conditional discharge for 12 months.

She still has to pay £100 compensation and £15 victim surcharge
