SOAP stars and politicians are set to clash in a charity cricket match.

The Help For Heroes fundraiser, at Kirkburton Cricket Club on Sunday (1pm), is the second to be organised by Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell.

Stars from ITV’s Emmerdale include Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard and Coronation Street’s Gary Windass, who plays Mikey North.

The Lords and Commons XI includes several MPs and former England rugby league player Ikram Butt as well as junior members from Kirkburton CC.

The event features live music, a hog roast, barbecue and children’s activities together with an auction including a 20/20 shirt signed by Prime Minister David Cameron and a signed Huddersfield Town shirt as prizes.

Philip Newsome, chairman of Kirkburton CC, said: “We are very happy to be hosting a fantastic family event in aid of Help for Heroes. The Kirkburton CC players will mostly be drawn from the juniors or younger members of the senior teams.

“The club prides itself on putting the younger players into our senior sides and as we are currently fourth in the Drakes League Premiership and second in the second premiership, we are having a successful season, despite the weather.”

Simon Reevell said: “I am very much looking forward to repeating the success of last year’s match. I am sure the Emmerdale team will be worthy opponents.

“The most important thing is that everyone enjoys the day which I hope will raise a significant amount for Help For Heroes.”
