PARTS of Deighton and Bradley are the latest in Huddersfield to become no-go areas for buses after attacks on drivers.

Arriva has stopped services all day on the Keldregate estate.

The action follows night-time curfews imposed on Lepton by Yorkshire Traction and Meltham by First Huddersfield in response to repeated vandal attacks and robberies.

Police today told residents: Tell us who is causing the trouble.

Det Con Steve Shaw, of Huddersfield CID, said: "We would urge people living in the communities affected by these bus curfews to come forward and tell us who is responsible for these attacks.

"Information has been coming in since the problems were highlighted in the paper."

He revealed police have now arrested two Meltham men in connection with the robbery of a bus driver on the Broadlands estate in the village late last Wednesday.

The attack led to buses being withdrawn from the estate after dark.

The men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The latest move by Arriva to suspend its buses from the Keldregate area follows the robbery of three bus drivers.

Arriva's commercial director in Yorkshire, Phil Booker, said: "Following a number of incidents in which our drivers have been threatened, Arriva has been forced to suspend all bus services from the Keldergate estate.

"While we accept this will cause inconvenience to some customers, we would ask them to recognise that we cannot operate services where we believe the safety of customers and employees could be compromised.

"We are working closely with the police and Metro and will resume services as soon as we are assured it is safe to do so."

Yorkshire Traction pulled out of Lepton after dark following vandal attacks on its buses in the area.

This curfew will remain at least until the end of this week.

A meeting will be held on Friday between the police, Yorkshire Traction, Kirklees councillors and the anti-social behaviour unit.

The Examiner revealed last week that six youths suspected of causing some of the trouble have been referred to a special anti-social behaviour unit.
