TRAVELLERS who have set up camp in this village field should be evicted within days.
The group arrived in New Mill on Wednesday after leaving the former Midlothian garage site in Holmfirth.
Some five caravans and several other vehicles are in a Kirklees Council-owned field next to a children’s play area off Holmfirth Road.
Clr Ken Sims, who represents the area on Kirklees, said action was being taken.
He said: “The council has taken out an eviction notice, so they should be gone in a few days.” Clr Sims added that some people had contacted him about the travellers.
The Holme Valley South Conservative said: “Obviously residents are upset about this. This is the first time I can remember there being travellers in New Mill.
“It’s not so much them being there that’s the problem; it’s all the mess they leave behind.”
