A FORMER Huddersfield Giants Academy player is in a Cyprus hospital after his throat was slashed in a horror attack.

Now Isaac Brown is badly hurt and stranded on the holiday isle after he was attacked during a night out with friends.

His family has set up a fundraising page on social networking site Facebook to raise enough money to bring him home.

Nineteen-year-old Isaac was slashed across his throat up to his ear during the unprovoked attack in the resort of Aiya Napa last Wednesday (July 15).

He was rushed to hospital by ambulance where he underwent life saving surgery, but because the hospital was private his family face an 8,000 Euro bill which equates to around £6,700.

Friends set up the Facebook page and so far more than 5,000 Euros have been raised towards the final total.

Isaac’s friend Gina Russell – a student at Kirklees College – said: “Isaac is stable now but still needs oxygen. All his friends are so pleased that he will pull through.

“I’ve spoken to his mum and she’s delighted with all the support people have given on Facebook. It shows what a popular guy he is.”

A recently posted Facebook message from Isaac’s mum, Wendy Smith who lives in Eccleshill, Bradford, and his cousin, Natalie Downes, says: “Please please keep donating as much as you can. Every little helps. Once again thank you so much myself.

“Isaac and the rest of the family really appreciate all your support. God bless to all of you. All our love Wendy and family.”

Pubs and clubs across West Yorkshire have organised fundraising evenings to help boost the final total including an event at Tokyo’s in Bradford a week on Friday (July 30).

Head of youth performance at Huddersfield Giants Damian McGrath said: “Isaac was a smashing lad and worked very hard in training. He was part of the Academy squad last season but he was injured early on in the season after having a bad accident where his hands were badly cut on a glass table.

“He struggled to regain his fitness after that. I am shocked to hear what has happened but obviously the club wishes him well.”

Isaac played in the position of hooker with the squad and scored several tries before his injury.

His family hope he will be able to leave hospital within the next couple of days if the bill is paid and then return to his hotel before returning home.
