A FORMER Huddersfield Giants player has appeared in court in connection with an attack on a young woman.

Gregory Johnson, 21, of Newsome Road, Newsome, was charged by Huddersfield magistrates with unlawful wounding and indecently touching a woman aged 16 or over.

The allegations follow an incident in Huddersfield town centre bar Yates on February 13 this year.

Johnson, who now plays for Wakefield Wildcats, was not represented by a solicitor due to a problem with his legal aid. He was committed to appear at Bradford Crown Court on Friday, May 13 at 10am.

He was given bail on the condition that he does not contact any of the witnesses or the victim. The winger, who started the season in the Giant’s Super League squad was released by the Galpharm club following the alleged incident. He signed for the Wildcats a week later and last played for them in the 26-0 thrashing by Wigan on Easter Monday.

He did not play in the win against Hull KR last Sunday and is not in the squad for this weekend’s Challenge Cup fixture against Doncaster.
