A FORMER vicar of Huddersfield has been appointed as acting chaplain to the Bishop of Wakefield.

The Rev Canon Brian Maguire retired in July 2000. He was vicar at St Peter's Church for 11 years.

He became honorary Canon of Wakefield Cathedral in 1994 and following his retirement became Canon Emeritus of Wakefield Cathedral.

Mr Maguire was born in Bromborough, Cheshire, but was brought up in Sussex, Hertfordshire and Kent.

He entered the ministry in his mid-30s and trained at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield.

He went on to become curate at Guisborough Parish Church and then team vicar in Haxby near York in 1976.
