THE Liberal Democrats have stormed to victory in the Colne Valley - but Charles Kennedy is not celebrating yet.

Pupils at Moor End Technology College, in Dryclough Road, Crosland Moor, went to the polls last week and the results are in.

All the main parties' actual manifestos were studied by the pupils and the Lib Dems and Greens came first and second and the reason for the teenagers' vote of confidence? Both parties are proposing less exams.

Head of humanities, Roger Carrier, said: "We have spent the last two weeks looking at the manifestos and exams and Iraq were the most important for the children."

Pupil Rosy Townend, 15, of Lockwood, acted as one of the election officials on polling day.

She said: "I really enjoyed all the work we have done.

"It is very important that we can learn about important things like this.

"It was my job to tell people how to fill in their voting forms."

The full results were: Lib Dems 253; Green Party 213; Labour 178; Conservative 42; UKIP 11.
