BROWNIES are set to get a great new craft storage room – thanks to the Examiner Cash Giveaway.

The 7th St Cuthbert’s Brownies won a £900 grant in last year’s fantastic scheme, which helped many local groups.

And they plan to use it to redecorate their crumbling store room.

They are one of many groups across Huddersfield who benefited from the big cash giveaway last year.

The Examiner handed out £30,000 to help groups who do something worthwhile for the community.

The Brownies’ room, which is under St Cuthbert’s Church in Birkby, has been broken into many times and the cupboards and shelves damaged.

Now the 18-strong group of girls, joined by their parents and leaders, plan to hold a Brownie Parent Day where they will give the place a lick of paint and clear the old rubbish out.

Volunteer Amanda Barnby, said: “We’re over the moon to have got the cash.

“Without this we would have had the repairs and improvements slowly a little bit at a time over the years.

“We do something arty or crafty just about every week so the money is being put to good use.”

This year the Examiner has a huge £50,000 to give away to groups who do valuable work within communities.

The deadline for entries is February 27 – so get your application in as soon as possible.

You can apply online at www.examiner.co.uk/communitycash or pick up an application form at the Examiner reception at Queen Street South.
