It has become a hugely-popular feature of the Huddersfield calendar.

And next month, hundreds of people will again stride out to be a part of the Examiner Charity Challenge.

They will be raising thousands of pounds for local and national charities when they take part in walks, runs, cycle rides and horse rides in the town.

It’s the 25th anniversary of the Charity Challenge this year and proudly wearing the registration No.25 will be Lascelles Hall woman Diane Ainley.

Diane, 50, who works in retail, has taken part in every single event and as she said: “It has taken up exactly half my life”.

Diane, who is engaged to partner Tony Liversedge, will be joining the walkers at the Lepton Highlanders sports complex on Sunday, May 18.

The Lepton complex off Wakefield Road hosts the walks, run and cycle ride, while there is a children’s Teddy Bear Hunt in Beaumont Park and a horse ride at Marsden.

Diane is again raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

She said: “I have always enjoyed walking, since my grandad used to take me walking around the golf club at Fixby when I was four or five.

“I do a lot of walking locally but also in Cumbria and in the Dales.

“It’s really enjoyable to part of the Charity Challenge . I remember doing the old Examiner Fun Run at Waterloo and when the walk succeeded it I joined in and have done it every year.

“A family member underwent a quadruple heart bypass operation and that’s why I chose the British Heart Foundation, but I have also raised money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

“I got a boost this year when staff at Haighs Farm Shop donated the contents of their wishing well to my sponsorship”.

The event, organised by Lions Clubs, gets under way at 8.30am.
