People wanting to find out more about this year’s Examiner Charity Challenge are welcome to attend a meeting next week.

The launch night hosted by organisers Huddersfield Lions Clubs will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at 7.30pm. Initially it had been organised for the night before.

The challenge will be held on Sunday, May 18, and if you are planning to take part then to learn all about how you can use the event to make more money for your chosen charity and get maximum publicity for your organisation.

This year organisers Huddersfield Lions Club are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Charity Challenge by adding new events including an adult 6 kilometre cross country run and a 1 mile run on the sports complex for 10 to 13-year-olds.

There are challenges designed for everyone, with sign-posted three and seven-mile walks with staffed points as well as a longer 20 kilometre accompanied walk.

The Lions have also planned three bike ride routes of varying levels and a 15 mile horse ride around the Marsden area is being organised by Kirklees Bridleway. The popular Teddy Bears’ Hunt will be held in Beaumont Park at Crosland Moor.

Lions spokesman Graham Isley said: “This is an event for the smaller charities to get involved just as much as the larger ones. The Lions do all the organising and collections, administration and promoting and all the money raised for the charity goes to the charity. Charities both large and small are encouraged to get on board. In the last 24 years The Challenge has raised more than £500,000 for a range of good causes.

Keep a look out in the Examiner in the next few months for more information on how to enrol to take part.
