Kaukub won for spending countless hours helping others despite being disabled herself.

Kaukub, who has limited vision, has worked as a volunteer for Kirklees Police for around five years, liaising with the victims of hate crime.

She has also been a volunteer for the charity Victim Support and a project called Surviving Trauma After Rape for nine years. She has also done some great work with the police’s Disability Working Group by creating materials in braille for victims, such as victim personal statements and crime prevention booklets.

Kaukub said: “I feel overwhelmed because there are so many people I think are worthy of this award.

“I absolutely love my role with the police and I hope it encourages other people with disabilities to get out there and grasp opportunities like I have.

“As long as there is good support there is no reason why people with disabilities cannot achieve their dreams.”
