THE majority of photos in this week’s All Our Yesterdays are readers’ submitted pictures of their or their relatives’ childhood spent getting a proper education at one or another of Huddersfield’s excellent schools.

There is never a typical schooldays picture, though the one featured above from Mrs S Marsden has a certain formulaic quality to it.

The school is Huddersfield High School, New North Road, and the year the photo was taken could be 1918 to about 1922, which were the years that Mrs Marsden’s father, Norman Wright, was at the school.

Norman, who lived then in Fartown, is the middle boy on the back row. Mrs Marsden knows no other names, not even the teacher’s.

Several of our pictures this week are less formal. Some are of lads and lasses outside the school environment and we step way outside the schoolyard with a set of photos from St John’s Church in Lepton back in the 1950s and 1960s.
