CONSULTING engineers are working on a study into a new cycleway for Meltham.

Mouchel Parkman, of Manchester, are conducting the investigation into the potential of a cycleway connecting Meltham with Huddersfield town centre.

The route would go along the old railway track, which ends on the site of the former Meltham station, now the Safeway supermarket.

Lynette Evans, Kirklees Council's cycling officer, said: "Earlier this year we commissioned a consultant to do a feasibility study and are awaiting receipt of the full report.

"We will then take it to the council Cabinet for a decision on how to progress the project and consult the public.

"It is still at an early stage."

Miss Evans said the route involved a lot of issues, such as land ownership and access.
