A NEW Tesco store is to open in Huddersfield.
A small Tesco Express store will open on October 25 on New Hey Road at Marsh.
The convenience store will be on the site of the former Westbourne Service Station, on the corner of Thornhill Road.
There are more than 100 Tesco Express stores in the UK that are attached to petrol stations.
But the New Hey Road store will not feature one.
Instead, it will join the supermarket chain's 26 stand-alone Tesco Express shops.
Work started on the store on Monday.
Tesco has asked Kirklees Council for permission to put up lit signs at the store.
An application has also been made for a licence to sell alcohol on an off- licence basis.
