A HOLME Valley convenience store could grow if planners give the green light.

Bosses at Thongsbridge Co-op, part of the three-store Wooldale Co-operative Society, are hoping to revamp and extend the Springwood Road store in a bid to compete with the major supermarkets.

The extension to the rear of the premises, currently a playing field, would increase the retail area by more than 50%.

Car parking spaces are also set to be boosted from five to 17 and an arrangement for the adjacent Holmfirth High School to use the enlarged area as a drop-off/pick-up point is being agreed.

The society’s other stores, New Mill and Wooldale, have already been refurbished.
