THE Highways Agency will use mobile cameras to monitor traffic conditions in Yorkshire.
It is hoped the £500,000 scheme will provide drivers with more reliable information for journeys.
Using the latest mobile phone technology, 10 mobile CCTV units will be available for use on major routes throughout northern England.
The cameras sit on trailers.
They can be raised to 30 feet and may be deployed at a moment’s notice where there is no fixed CCTV.
The units will transmit traffic information to Highways Agency regional control in Wakefield.
The technology can also monitor traffic flows to major events such as Leeds Festival and the Great Yorkshire Show.
