FRIENDLY Yorkshire folk headed down t’park for some reet good fun.

Beaumont Park hosted a Yorkshire Day event celebrating all things great about God’s Own County.

Mary Kenworthy, treasurer of Friends of Beaumont Park, said: “The best thing about Yorkshire is the people and how friendly they are.

“Everyone has come from all over the community to have some fun at this event and everyone is so friendly all around you can see all your neighbours.”

Mary said there were hundreds of people at the event, which caused traffic problems around the Victorian park on Butternab Road.

The event featured entertainment from Knottingley Band on the bandstand, Pennine Jazz band on the terrace and performances by cheerleaders and majorettes.

Children enjoyed donkey rides on the playing field and whizzing around on the fairground rides.

The tea room was open for Yorkshire tea and visitors browsed craft, food and charity stalls.

The Royal Oak in Linthwaite also hosted a Yorkshire Day yesterday.

Revellers had fun with party games like welly-wanging, roll round the barrel and tug o’ war.

Pub landlord Jeanne Brennan said: “It’s been really busy and we’ve had all sorts on.

“We’ve had Yorkshire music on and traditional games.”

All the money raised from the event will go to help raise money for oxygen therapy for Golcar tot Amelia Lea who has cerebral palsy.

The two-year-old was left severely disabled at birth after the umbilical cord became wrapped around her neck three times.

Her parents Crystal Lea and Dean Walton, from Golcar, are trying to raise over £4,000 so Amelia can have Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

They believe an oxygen chamber will give the tot a new lease of life and she might even have a chance of walking one day.
