FACEBOOK has become the latest weapon in the hunt for Adam O’Toole’s killer.

Friends of the former Huddersfield New College student have turned to the social networking website in a bid to help the investigation into his hit and run death.

Robert McGuin, a former classmate of Adam’s, formed a group on the site – called In Memory of Adam O'Toole 18.07.88-06.03.07 – a fortnight ago.

More than 420 people have already signed up.

In his description of the group on Facebook, Robert, of Syringa Street, Marsh, says: “On March 6 Tooley was involved in a hit and run.

“The blue Rover 200 car was travelling at such a speed that nobody could have survived the impact.

“So far the killer has not been found.

“Surely somebody has that missing clue.”

Rugby-mad Adam, 18, died after he was hit at around at around 10.30am as he crossed the pedestrian crossing on New Hey Road near the college at Salendine Nook.

But despite repeated police appeals, the leads have dried up. The killer was believed to have headed towards Oldham after the incident.

And Robert, 19, who now attends Huddersfield University, has urged people from Greater Manchester to join the Facebook group.

He said: “I’m trying to keep it in the public eye. There has been a lot of media attention in this area, but there will be people from Greater Manchester who won’t know anything about it.”

One member of the Facebook group devoted to Adam said: “I didn’t know Adam, but live in the area it happened.

“It is a terrible loss and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.”.

Facebook allows people to communicate with friends and exchange information.

It has more than 40 million users worldwide.

The website has helped police in similar investigations before.
