KIRKLEES has been successful in renewing its Fairtrade Borough status, as well as Fairtrade Town status for Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council supports Fairtrade and has directly contributed to achieving this status by incorporating Fairtrade in all its procurement activity and by being an integral part of the Fairtrade steering group for Kirklees, a forum with an active and wide-reaching membership.

With lots of events and activities regularly taking place across the borough – as well as three new Fairtrade status schools in the area – Kirklees continues to drive the campaign for Fairtrade forward.

Clr Julie Stewart-Turner said: “This is a great achievement for Kirklees.

“And it’s all thanks to the hard work, time and energy of dedicated people across the borough who continue to support the campaign for Fairtrade.

“There are always plenty of Fairtrade activities to get involved with.

“These include the next national campaign The Big Fair Bake which takes place from Monday September 24 to Thursday October 4.

“This fun event encourages you to buy Fairtrade ingredients, bake a campaign cake and share it in your community.’’

The Fairtrade activity continues to flourish in Kirklees.

Future projects, which include developing new areas such as interfaith work and an online directory, are already well underway.
