ROBBERIES, house burglaries and vehicle crime have all fallen dramatically in West Yorkshire.

Figures just released for the three months from April to June this year show that robberies are down 44% (501 offences), burglaries by 43% (3,928) and vehicle crime by a third (5,232).

West Yorkshire Police Deputy Chief Constable Phil Brear said: "It's down to working harder and working smarter. We're now closing the gap on similar forces.

"While these figures show we still have some ground to make up in reducing and investigating crime, we've closed the gap significantly."

Police authority chairman Clr Mark Burns-Williamson praised the hard work done across the force.
