KIRKLEES Tory leader Clr Robert Light is in hospital after falling 20ft from a barn roof.

Clr Light, 40, is thought to have been doing some work on the barn at his farm in Birkenshaw, near Cleckheaton, at about 7pm on Thursday evening.

He has broken six ribs and punctured a lung. His condition in Dewsbury District Hospital was described as stable today.

It is not known how long father-of-three Clr Light will be in hospital or when he will be back leading the party.

Deputy leader Clr Ken Sims has taken temporary control.

Clr Light's wife, Sharon, is said to have been at her husband's side since the fall.

Fellow Tory Clr Andrew Palfreeman said the news had come as a big shock to the party.

He said: "The details I know are sketchy, but we send all our best wishes to Robert and his family.

"Party members have sent lots of goodwill messages."
