PUPILS and parents rolled up their sleeves to help create a mural at a Lockwood primary school.

Volunteers used their artistic skills to produce the 32ft artwork at Mount Pleasant Junior, Infant and Nursery School on Lockwood Road after the school was awarded £4,000.

The grant, from Voluntary Action Kirklees, enabled a brick wall at the bottom of the school's garden to be brightened up and also saw a metal sculpture created.

They were helped by Marsden artist Rosie Lonnon working on the theme of home.

Rahat Hussain, the school's community development worker, said: "The brick wall looked awful before but I think we will see the real impact in the summer when all the flowers are out.

"The children think it is great."
