THE family of taxi killer Christopher Murphy last night expressed their remorse.

His father Mr Denis Murphy released a statement as the teenager was caged for his part in the savage killing of taxi driver Mohammad Parvaiz in Golcar.

Members of the family had sat through every day of the harrowing trial as their son was convicted of murder.

Mr Murphy said: "It is with deep sadness and regret that we acknowledge the role our son Christopher played in the events of July last year which led to the death of Mr Parvaiz.

"We and Christopher have accepted the verdict of the court and the sentence of the judge and understand that Christopher must now face the consequences of his decisions and actions of that night.

"Although we will continue to love and support Christopher as he serves his sentence we nevertheless face many family events and milestones that we cannot share with him.

"However we all, including Christopher, recognise that our loss is not comparable to that of Mr Parvaiz's family.

"We would like to extend our deepest sympathies and regret to them, in particular to Mrs Parvaiz and her children".

Similar sentiments were expressed by the family of Jason Harris.

Harris was unanimously cleared of both murder and manslaughter by the jury - but had admitted violent disorder.

His father, Kyle, said: "The impact of this very sad incident will live with Jason, and indeed us all, for the rest of our lives and we would like to express our deepest sympathy to Mrs Parvaiz and her family for their loss in such tragic circumstances."
