A VAN carrying a family of eight ploughed through a wall after leaving the road in Bolster Moor - but all escaped serious injury.

The VW van was travelling along Clough Road when it careered through the wall at around 7pm last night.

The van then continued into a farm yard and through a number of sheds before coming to rest.

Fire crews from Huddersfield and Slaithwaite attended as well as police.

A fleet of three ambulances was mobilised to take three occupants of the van, including one child, to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary - their injuries are not believed to be serious.

Crew manager Frank Van Rooyten from Slaithwaite Fire Station said the family had been very fortunate and added: "The roads were wet after the downpour, but the reason for the van leaving the road is unclear.

"But, despite going through the wall and sheds, it stayed the right way up.

"The majority of the family suffered only bruises which is amazing in a crash like this.

"They were extremely lucky."
