Arsonists piled rubbish up against the side of a family’s house in Huddersfield and set it alight.
The fire quickly spread into the front room of the property in Neale Road, Lockwood, in the early hours of this morning.
There were three people in the house, but they became aware of the fire and managed to get out of the property unharmed.
A family of five in the house next door were also evacuated as a precaution as smoke was starting to get into their property.
The incident happened at about 1.30am.
A fire service spokesman said: “Rubbish outside the house had been deliberately placed against the property and then set on fire.
“The fire quickly spread into the front room through the window.
“The people living there had thankfully become aware of the fire and they were all outside when we arrived.
“A family of five next door were evacuated because of smoke.”
Two fire engines went to the scene and it took two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus about an hour to tackle the blaze which caused damage to the front room.
Police are investigating the incident.
